Every year, at the beginning of February, Catania commemorates the celebration of St. Agatha, a feast that has distant roots. For three days, devotees accompany the "Santuzza" (Little Saint) through the streets of the city, dressed in a white tunic and a black headdress. To the shout of "semu tutti devoti tutti" (we are all devotees) they honor the Saint martyred in 251. As a sign of devotion they offer her flowers and candles. The celebration of St. Agatha is a feast of light. Light as a sign of hope so that the requests addressed to the Saint will be granted. Large candles illuminate the Sicilian city and the faces of the devotees. In this project I wanted to show how religion and tradition are mixed in this feast.
